Egyptian tambourine with fishskin head, mother of pearl inlay, and brass jingles. The large jingles are the main distinction between the Riq and the western tambourine. The jingles are large and heavy so they produce a solid ring sound, not the high pitched jingling sound. Played with the hands, the jingles are directly tapped to produce the rhythm patterns.
Hear the Riq on 'Segatanieras' from 'bamboo dynasty'.
